Man United in pole position to sign 20-year-old Brazilian forward, claims journalist
French football expert Jonathan Johnson claims Man United are leading the race to sign Bordeaux striker Malcom
Manchester United are leading the race to sign Bordeaux striker Malcom, according to French journalist Jonathan Johnson.
The Brazil Under-23 international has emerged as a hot property in the January transfer window despite his lack of top level football.
Malcom has established himself as a key player in a struggling Bordeaux side following a return of seven goals in 17 games in Ligue 1.
The South American has been touted as a possible replacement for Arsenal contract rebel Alexis Sanchez over the past week or so.
The Gunners are facing a battle to keep Sanchez at the north London club with less than six months on his current deal.
However, French football expert Johnson has revealed that Manchester United are the favourites to sign the Bordeaux forward.
“There is definitely interest in Malcom from the Premier League,” Johnson told the Transfer Talk podcast.
“The club I’ve been told is after him is Manchester United. It wouldn’t surprise me if there are more clubs monitoring his situation.
“It is clear Malcom will be on the move in the next six months. He could move this month. It is a possibility.”
Manchester United signed Romelu Lukaku in a £75m deal from Premier League rivals Everton in the summer transfer window.
The Red Devils are in second place in the Premier League table but 15 points adrift of runaway leaders Manchester City.
The 20-time English champions have also been linked with a move to sign Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann and Juventus star Paulo Dybala.
