Charlie Nicholas states his prediction for Nottingham Forest v Arsenal
The Arsenal legend is backing the Gunners to ease to a 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup on Sunday afternoon
Charlie Nicholas is tipping Arsenal to come out on top in a five-goal thriller with Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Sunday.
The Gunners are looking to win the cup competition in successive seasons following their 2-1 win against defending Premier League champions Chelsea at Wembley last term.
Arsenal are five points adrift of fourth-placed Liverpool FC in their bid to secure a return to the Champions League after a one-season absence.
The north London side will take on Antonio Conte’s Blues outfit over two legs in the League Cup semi-finals with a place in the final against Manchester City or Bristol City awaiting the winner.
Arsenal booked their place in the Europa League knockout stage after topping their group and will be hoping to win Europe’s second tier competition to earn a Champions League spot for next term.
However, winning the FA Cup could represent Arsenal’s best hope of securing some silverware this season having won the competition in three of the past four seasons.
Former Arsenal midfielder Nicholas is backing Wenger’s men to make hard work of their trip to two-time European champions Nottingham Forest.
“I am concerned about Arsenal here,” Nicholas told Sky Sports.
“Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil, Jack Wilshere and Alexandre Lacazette won’t play but the real concern is that defence. Per Mertesacker will come back in because Calum Chambers is absolutely broken.
“I’d still expect Arsenal to progress with Danny Welbeck and Theo Walcott good enough and experienced enough to get them through what looks a very awkward clash.”
Arsenal have beaten Chelsea, Aston Villa and Hull City in their last three FA Cup final triumphs.
The Gunners have conceded seven times in their last three games in the Premier League.
