Michael Owen states his prediction for Southampton v Tottenham
The Liverpool legend is backing Tottenham Hotspur to beat Southampton
Michael Owen is backing Tottenham Hotspur to beat Southampton on Mauricio Pochettino’s return to St Mary’s on Sunday.
Spurs will make the trip to the south coast looking to secure three points and keep pace with fourth-placed Chelsea.
Tottenham have won four of their last five Premier League games to put pressure on the current top four.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side have beaten Everton, Southampton, Swansea and Burnley over the past month or so.
Spurs were 5-2 winners against the Saints at Wembley thanks to Harry Kane’s hat-trick at the home of English football.
The Saints have failed to win their last six Premier League games to edge closer to the relegation zone.
Former Liverpool striker Owen is backing Spurs to beat Southampton in a comfortable victory at St Mary’s on Sunday afternoon.
“Spurs have won their last two on their travels and they looked back to their very best when giving Everton a 5-0 hiding at Wembley last weekend,” Owen told BetVictor.
“Former Saints’ boss Mauricio Pochettino is unbeaten at St Mary’s since he left the club at the end of the 2013-14 season whilst Saints have not won in their last 10 league games. I cannot see past a Spurs win.”
Tottenham finished in second place in the Premier League table last season after finishing seven points adrift of current English champions Chelsea.
Spurs will take on Serie A giants Juventus in the Champions League round of 16 next month.
Kane has scored 20 times in 22 games in the Premier League in the current campaign to lead the division’s goal-scoring charts.
Tottenham are still waiting to win their first piece of silverware under Pochettino.
