Tottenham favourites ahead of Arsenal to sign 20-year-old Brazilian striker – report
Tottenham are leading the race to sign Bordeaux striker Malcom in the January transfer window, according to reports
Tottenham Hotspur are the favourites to sign Malcom from Bordeaux despite Arsenal’s previous interest in the Brazilian forward, according to reporter Kaveh Solhekol.
The Bordeaux striker has established himself as the French side’s most important player this season in what has been an otherwise difficult campaign for the Ligue 1 side.
Arsenal are in the market to sign a forward in the January transfer window given Alexis Sanchez is on the brink of a move to their bitter rivals Manchester United.
However, the Gunners are now being tipped to sign Gabon international Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in a big-money deal from Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund.
Tottenham have also been linked with a potential swoop to sign the South American forward to end their reliance on England international Harry Kane.
Spurs signed Spanish striker Fernando Llorente from Swansea City on transfer deadline day last summer but the former Juventus man has barely featured.
Sky Sports News reporter Solhekol named Tottenham as favourites to sign the promising Brazilian forward in the current transfer window.
“It seems to have gone very, very quiet on Malcom,” Solhekol told Sky Sports News on Monday morning.
“We’re told Tottenham are now the favourites to sign Bordeaux’s Brazilian winger.
“Spurs want to buy him now and allow him to stay on loan at Bordeaux until the end of the season.”
Tottenham are in fifth place in the Premier League table but five points behind defending Premier League champions Chelsea.
Spurs haven’t won the Premier League title but finished in second and third place in the last two seasons.
