Mark Lawrenson states his prediction for Arsenal v Everton
The Liverpool legend is backing Arsenal to ease to 2-0 win against Everton at The Emirates on Saturday evening
Mark Lawrenson is confident that Arsenal will protect their excellent home record against Everton at The Emirates on Saturday evening.
The Gunners will be looking to bounce back from their 3-1 loss to Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium on Tuesday night following a disastrous defensive performance.
Arsenal have struggled on the road in the 2017-18 season but the Gunners have an imperious home record following nine victories and two stalemates.
Only Manchester United have managed to beat Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium this term following a 3-1 win against Arsene Wenger’s side back in December.
Everton, on the other hand, have the fourth worst away record in the Premier League this season following five draws and six losses.
Former Liverpool defender Lawrenson is backing Arsenal to beat Everton to get their top-four challenge back on track on Saturday evening.
“Everton have not won at Arsenal since January 1996, when Andrei Kanchelskis scored a late winner at Highbury,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport.
“I do not see the Toffees ending that awful run, but their midweek win over Leicester – their first victory of the year at their fifth attempt – was an important one, because at least it stops the rot.”
Arsenal signed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in a club record £56m deal from Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund on transfer deadline day last week.
The Gunners snapped up Henrikh Mkhitaryan in a swap deal that saw Alexis Sanchez complete a switch to Manchester United in January.
The north London side haven’t won the Premier League title since 2003-04 when the Gunners finished the campaign unbeaten.
