Ian Wright: Arsene Wenger has destroyed Arsenal star’s confidence
The Arsenal legend believes Arsene Wenger has contributed to Alexandre Lacazette's slump in form
Ian Wright has accused Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger of destroying Alexandre Lacazette’s confidence.
The Gunners signed the France international in a £52m deal from Ligue 1 side Lyon in the summer transfer window.
Lacazette earned a reputation as one of Europe’s top goal-scorers during his spell at the French club.
The Arsenal club record signing scored within two minutes of making his debut in a 4-3 win over Leicester City on the opening day of the season.
The 26-year-old has only managed to score one goal in his last 10 games in all competitions to raise questions about the summer signing.
Lacazette has regularly been taken off before the full 90 minutes as Arsene Wenger continues to use the new striker cautiously.
However, former Arsenal striker Wright believes Wenger has contributed to Lacazette’s lack of goals.
“He has played well in games, he has scored goals, but he has been taken off,” Wright told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“Wenger has destroyed Lacazette’s confidence.”
Arsenal summer signing Lacazette has scored nine times in 25 games in the Premier League this season.
The Gunners finished in fifth place in the Premier League last season to miss out on a Champions League spot.
The north London side signed Armenia international Henrikh Mkhitaryan in a swap deal with Manchester United after Alexis Sanchez headed to Old Trafford last month.
