Steven Gerrard names three problems Arsenal need to fix under Arsene Wenger
The Liverpool FC legend believes Arsenal still need address problems with the goalkeeper and the back four
Steven Gerrard believes Arsenal still have problems with their defence to address despite a thrilling 5-1 win against Everton at The Emirates on Saturday evening.
The Gunners supporters were able to console themselves with the addition of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after a 3-1 loss to Premier League strugglers Swansea City last week.
Arsene Wenger handed January signings Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan their home debuts for the visit of the Toffees in the north London last weekend.
The Armenia international made three assists and Aubameyang opened his Arsenal account in the landslide win against a poor Everton side.
While Arsenal’s 5-1 win has provided some much-needed positivity at The Emirates, Arsene Wenger won’t have forgotten their disastrous performance at the Liberty Stadium last week.
Indeed, the Gunners have conceded 35 goals in 26 games in the Premier League this season to leave Arsenal six points behind Liverpool FC.
Former Reds captain Gerrard warned Wenger that Arsenal have some defensive problems to address in the summer.
“For me, Arsenal’s problems are at the back,” Gerrard told BT Sport.
“The back four, the goalkeeper’s ageing, I’m not sure the’ve got that enforcer in midfield to win games and win battles in the middle of the pitch.
“Arsenal have always been good going forward and capable of creating and scoring goals. It’s the other end where the problem is.
“I’m not sure they sorted that problem in the transfer window.”
Arsenal have won the FA Cup title in three of the past four seasons but the Gunners limped out of the competition in the third round following a 4-2 loss to Nottingham Forest last month.
Wenger’s side will take on Premier League leaders Manchester City in the League Cup final at Wembley later this month.
