Mark Lawrenson predicts where Arsenal will finish this season
The former Liverpool FC defender is refusing to rule Arsenal out of the race to secure a top-four finish this season
Mark Lawrenson believes Arsenal are capable of finishing in the Premier League’s top four this season.
The Gunners were impressive 5-1 winners against Everton at The Emirates last weekend following a breathtaking attacking performance in north London.
Arsenal signed Henrikh Mkhitaryan in a swap deal from Manchester United last month as Alexis Sanchez moved to Old Trafford following months of speculation.
The Gunners snapped up Gabon international Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in a club record £56m deal from Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund on transfer deadline day.
Arsenal have only managed to win three of their 12 games on the road in the Premier League this term ahead of the Gunners’ trip to Tottenham at Wembley.
Arsene Wenger’s side are five points adrift of fourth-placed Chelsea FC as Arsenal look to secure a return to the Champions League after a one-season absence.
While Lawrenson is tipping Arsenal to lose to Tottenham in the north London derby on Saturday, the former Liverpool FC defender isn’t ruling the Gunners out of the top-four race.
“I still think Arsenal can make a late run for the top four, but this is not a week where they close the gap,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport.
Arsenal finished in fifth place in the Premier League table last term to miss out on a Champions League spot for the first time under Wenger.
The Gunners will take on Manchester City in the League Cup final at Wembley later this month.
