Reporter claims new Arsenal signing similar to Gunners legend Thierry Henry
German football expert Raphael Honigstein says Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is similar in style to Arsenal legend Thierry Henry
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is a similar in style to Arsenal legend Thierry Henry, according to Raphael Hongistein.
The Gabon international completed a move to Arsenal in a club record £56m deal from Borussia Dortmund in the January transfer window.
Aubameyang has been one of the Bundesliga’s best strikers during his four and a half seasons at the German club.
The 28-year-old has scored 141 goals in 213 games in all competitions to establish himself as a top European striker.
However, the African forward is a more traditional striker, having proven his record in front of goal but his team work has been questioned.
The Gabon star will be tasked with emulating Gunners icon Henry at the Emirates Stadium.
Aubameyang scored on his Arsenal debut in Saturday evening’s 5-1 win over Everton in front of his new supporters in north London.
Bundesliga expert Honigstein believes Aubameyang will bring a similar skillset to Arsenal that Henry did almost two decades ago.
“[He has] all the attributes of the typical Arsenal striker,” Honigstein told Irish podcast Second Captains.
“Thierry Henry comparisons have been overused but he is that type of striker.
“He is a converted winger who cuts inside and he is really quick.”
Aubameyang has been prolific during his brilliant spell at Dortmund following 69 goals in 79 games in the Bundesliga.
The Gabon international has won the German Cup and two German Super Cups during his four and a half seasons at Dortmund.
