Paul Merson claims Arsene Wenger on course for one of his best Arsenal seasons
The Gunners legend believes Arsenal will be able to reflect on a positive season if Arsene Wenger's side win the Europa League and the League Cup

Paul Merson believes Arsene Wenger will be able to reflect on one of his best seasons at Arsenal if the Gunners win the Europa League and League Cup.
The north London side booked their place in the Europa League last 16 on Thursday night after a 4-2 aggregate win against Swedish minnows Ostasunds at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal will now turn their attention to the Carabao Cup showpiece at Wembley on Sunday when Wenger’s side will take on runaway Premier League leaders Manchester City.
The Gunners are a daunting 28 points behind Pep Guardiola’s side in the title race after a 3-1 loss to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium earlier this season.
Indeed, Wenger is coming under heavy criticism given Arsenal are in sixth place in the table and eight points behind the top four to leave qualification for the Champions League an unlikely prospect.
However, Arsenal can take heart from their victory over the Citizens in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley last term to continue their excellent record at the home of English football.
Indeed, the Gunners have won three FA Cup titles in the past four seasons and Wenger’s men won the Community Shield at Wembley back in August.
Former Arsenal legend Merson believes Wenger can reflect one of his best seasons should the Gunners win the Europa League and the League Cup.
“I just don’t think they’ve sorted their defence out, and you’re not winning much without a defence,” Merson told Sky Sports.
“If you were an owner of a club and you wanted to make money out of your club he’d be your first choice.
“However, if they win the Carabao Cup and the Europa League it would be a great season, one of his best as a manager.”
