Arsene Wenger gives update on Aaron Ramsey ahead of Arsenal v Man City
The Arsenal boss refuses to rule Aaron Ramsey out of contention to feature against Manchester City in the League Cup final on Sunday
Arsene Wenger is refusing to rule Aaron Ramsey out of contention to line up for Arsenal against Manchester City in the League Cup final on Sunday.
The Wales international is struggling with a persistent groin problem that is threatening to sideline the 27-year-old for the Carabao Cup showpiece.
Ramsey has missed a significant number of games with the groin injury in the current campaign after 16 starts and two substitute appearances this season.
The Arsenal midfielder netted a hat-trick in a 5-1 win over Everton in his final Premier League appearance before he missed the Gunners’ 1-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur in the north London derby.
Reports in England on Wednesday suggested that Ramsey is set to miss the League Cup final due to the groin problem.
However, Gunners boss Wenger insisted that there is still a chance Ramsey could feature against Premier League leaders Manchester City at Wembley on Sunday afternoon.
“We’ll see how his evolution goes now from today until Sunday,” Wenger told his pre-match media conference ahead of the League Cup final.
“I don’t rule him out yet, it depends on how well he can improve with the intensity of training until Sunday.”
Ramsey has scored seven goals and has made six assists in 19 appearances in all competitions in the 2017-18 season so far.
Manchester City suffered their second defeat of the domestic campaign following a 1-0 loss to Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup fifth round on Monday night.
Arsenal have won the FA Cup in three of the past four seasons.
