Jamie Carragher predicts where Arsenal will finish in the table
Jamie Carragher warns Arsenal that they are facing an uphill struggle to finish in the top four this season
Jamie Carragher has warned Arsenal that they are facing a serious uphill struggle in trying to break into the top four this season.
The north London side had to settle for a place outside the top four last season for the first time under Arsene Wenger.
The Gunners are playing Europa League football this term as a result but they will be desperate to bring Champions League games back to The Emirates next season.
Wenger’s side are currently outside the top four in the Premier League table as they bid to try and catch their rivals in the second half of the season.
Arsenal have been boosted with the signings of both Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang in the January transfer window as the Gunners moved quickly to add to their attacking options.
However, Liverpool FC legend Carragher has warned the Gunners that as things stand, they are not going doing enough to be able to finish in the top four.
Speaking on The Debate on Sky Sports last week, Carragher said: “I still think, even with those signings, they’ve got a major job on.
“They are hanging on by their fingernails. If they lose to Tottenham, it’s almost done in terms of them making the top four. They have to make sure they don’t lose that game.
“To be out of the Champions League maybe isn’t the end of the world. They actually look like they’re going backwards and away from the top four now.”
Arsenal, who have not won the title since 2004, return to Premier League action next weekend with a crunch clash against local rivals Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley.
