Jamie Redknapp has warned Mesut Ozil that it is now time for him to step up and deliver on a consistent basis for Arsenal.

The Germany international has committed his long-term future to the north London club by agreeing a new contract with the Gunners in recent days.

Ozil’s future had been a constant source of speculation in recent months along with Alexis Sanchez but the German has made up his mind to stay at The Emirates.

The 29-year-old playmaker has split opinion in recent months for his failure to produce consistent displays for the Gunners.

And former Liverpool FC midfielder Redknapp says it is now time for Ozil to step his game up and start delivering on a consistent basis for the north London side.

Speaking on Sky Sports News on Wednesday, Redknapp said: “The fact that Arsenal were forced to sign him I think has worked perfectly for him.

“But he’s got to demonstrate consistency now, week in, week out.

“He’s got all the ability in the world but he’s got to do it on a regular basis.”

Ozil will be hoping to feature as he bids to help Arsenal return to winning ways in the Premier League when they take on Everton at The Emirates on Saturday evening.

The Gunners head into that game on the back of their 3-1 loss to Swansea City on Tuesday, which severely dented their hopes of finishing in the top four this season.
