The Armenia international completed his transfer to the north London side from Manchester United last month as part of the same deal which saw Alexis Sanchez head to Old Trafford.
Mkhitaryan kicked off is Arsenal career in style last weekend when he set up three of the Gunners’ five goals in their 5-1 thrashing of Everton at The Emirates.
The 29-year-old had started the season strongly at Manchester United but quickly fell out of favour under Jose Mourinho after struggling to hold down a regular spot in the team.
Now, Sutton feels that Mkhitaryan is in the perfect place to fulfil his potential and he is backing the playmaker to help Arsenal compete for a top-four finish this term.
Speaking to BBC Radio 5 live, Sutton said: “If you’re an Arsenal fan, there is a bit of hope now. Alright, it’s one game [against Everton].
“Mkhitaryan has a freedom about him. He was shackled at Man United. Ozil is tied down…
“Of course they have issues at the back. But if you’re an Arsenal fan, there must be a real hope they can get a top four spot. They have real quality up front.”
Mkhitaryan will be hoping to feature for Arsenal when the Gunners return to Premier League action on Saturday afternoon with a crunch clash against Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley.
The north London side know that victory in that game would move them to within just one point of Mauricio Pochettino’s men as the race for Champions League qualification hots up.
