Martin Keown makes claim about Alexandre Lacazette after Arsenal loss to Spurs
Martin Keown claims that Alexandre Lacazette has been seriously affected by Arsenal's signing of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
Martin Keown has claimed that Alexandre Lacazette has been seriously affected by Arsenal’s signing of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the January transfer window.
The Gunners moved quickly to sign the Gabon striker from Borussia Dortmund in the mid-season window as Arsene Wenger opted to further bolster his attacking options at The Emirates following the arrival of Lacazette last summer.
Arsenal also brought in Henrikh Mkhitaryan from Manchester United as part of the same deal which saw Alexis Sanchez head to Old Trafford.
Lacazette has been dropped to the bench for Arsenal’s two Premier League games since Aubameyang’s arrival at the club.
The French striker, who signed from Lyon last July, came off the bench but failed to make an impact during the 1-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur in the top flight on Saturday.
And former Arsenal defender Keown reckons that Lacazette’s confidence has been seriously dented by the Gunners’ signing of Aubameyang in January.
Speaking to BT Sport on Saturday, Keown said: “He cost around £50m but he’s been seriously affected by the Aubameyang purchase. He looks completely out of sorts.”
Arsenal are now preparing for the first leg of their Europa League last 32 tie against Ostersund on Thursday night.
Winning the Europa League may be the Gunners’ best hope of qualifying for next season’s Champions League.
