Thierry Henry predicts where Arsenal will finish this season
Thierry Henry admits that Arsenal should try and focus on winning the Europa League now
Thierry Henry has encouraged Arsenal to focus on trying to win the Europa League this season after admitting that a top-four finish in the Premier League is now basically impossible.
The north London side suffered another blow to their hopes of finishing in the top four this term after they were beaten 1-0 by bitter local rivals Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley last weekend.
That defeat left Arsene Wenger’s men in sixth place in the Premier League table and eight points adrift of fourth-placed Chelsea FC as the race for Champions League qualification hots up.
Arsenal have one other chance go qualify for next season’s Champions League – by winning the Europa League this term as Manchester United did last year.
And Arsenal legend Henry has reluctantly admitted that the Gunners should probably focus on only winning the Europa League this season as it is their most realistic chance of Champions League qualification.
Speaking on Monday Night Football on Sky Sports, Henry said: “You still have some big teams the Europa League.
“Realistically, what they can achieve the most is winning the Europa League. I see that more happening than them finishing in the top four. Something incredible might happen but it’s unlikely.
“So are you going to focus only on the Europa League and let the league go? I don’t think you can do that. But you should go really strong on trying to win the Europa League.
“At the end of the day, that brings you back into the Champions League, and it is a trophy.”
Arsenal are preparing to take on Swedish side Ostersunds in the last 32 of the Europa League on Thursday night as they bid to try and book their place in the last 16.
The Gunners finished fifth and won the FA Cup under Wenger last term.
