Arsene Wenger is “confident” of completing a deal to bring Jonny Evans to Arsenal from West Brom in the summer transfer window, according to reports in the British media.

The Daily Mail is reporting that the Gunners boss feels sure that he will be able to bring the 30-year-old defender to The Emirates at the end of the season as the Frenchman looks to strengthen his rearguard options.

The same report says that Arsenal should be able to complete a £25m deal to sign the former Manchester United defender at the end of the season.

Evans was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal in the January transfer window but a switch for the Northern Ireland international failed to materialise.

Much has been made of Arsenal’s failings at the back this season and it would seem sensible for the Gunners to try and bring in defensive reinforcements at the end of the season.

Evans has been a regular fixture in the West Brom side so far this season, scoring two goals and making one assist in 22 Premier League games for the Baggies.

Arsenal are currently in sixth place in the Premier League table as they face an uphill battle in trying to get back into the top four this season.
