Jamie Redknapp: New Arsenal signing is a snip at £56m, here’s why
The Liverpool legend hails an inspired piece of transfer business after Arsenal signed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in a £56m deal
Jamie Redknapp has hailed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as a bargain signing despite Arsenal spending a club record £56m fee on the striker.
The Gabon international completed a deadline day move to the north London club to help fill Alexis Sanchez’s void at The Emirates.
Aubameyang has signed a long-term deal with the Gunners after the African forward was regularly linked with a move to Arsenal in recent seasons.
The 28-year-old didn’t require much time to adjust to Arsenal after Aubameyang scored on his debut with Arsenal’s third goal in a 5-1 win against Everton at Emirates Stadium on Saturday evening.
Arsenal supporters have plenty of reasons to be excited about their marquee signing given his incredible record of 141 goals in 213 appearances in all competitions at Borussia Dortmund.
Former Liverpool captain Redknapp hailed Aubameyang as a top signing for the north London club.
“Arsenal made the best of a bad situation in the transfer window,” Redknapp told the Daily Mail. “Even at £56million, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is a snip.
“He is one of the world’s best forwards and has the potential to become a true Arsenal great.
“As sensational as Arsenal were against Everton, though, it is far too early to say they have turned a corner.”
Aubameyang spent four and a half seasons at Dortmund but didn’t win the Bundesliga due to Bayern Munich’s dominance in the German top flight.
The Gabon forward will be hoping to fire Arsenal to a first Premier League title since 2003-04 when the Gunners finished the season unbeaten.
Arsenal will take on Premier League leaders Manchester City in the League Cup final at Wembley later this month.
