New Arsenal signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang sends message to Gunners supporters
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is hoping to fire Arsenal back to the top of the Premier League table
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has vowed to help Arsenal return to the top as soon as possible.
The Gabon international completed a reported £56m move to the Gunners from Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund on transfer deadline day.
Aubameyang has signed a long-term contract with Arsenal after the 28-year-old became the north London side’s most-expensive player in their history.
The African forward arrives at The Emirates with a big reputation after Aubameyang finished as the Bundesliga’s leading goal-scorer last season.
Indeed, the former AC Milan striker scored 141 goals in 213 games in all competitions for Dortmund under four different managers.
Aubameyang will be tasked with firing Arsenal into the Premier League’s top four and securing a return to the Champions League after a one-season absence.
Arsenal lost 3-1 to Premier League strugglers Swansea City on Tuesday night to leave Arsene Wenger’s side eight points behind fourth-placed Liverpool FC.
Asked to give a message to the Arsenal supporters following his move, Aubameyang told the club’s website:
“I hope that we will come back to the top as soon as possible. I will do my best to join in.”
Arsenal finished in fifth place in the Premier League table last season to miss out on a top-four spot for the first time under Arsene Wenger.
The Gunners have also signed Henrikh Mkhitaryan in a swap deal from Manchester United after Alexis Sanchez completed a switch to Old Trafford.
