Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang: My style of play is like this Arsenal legend
The Arsenal signing likens his style of play to the club's all-time record goal-scorer
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has likened his playing style to Arsenal legend Thierry Henry.
The Gunners signed the Gabon international in a reported £56m deal from Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund on transfer deadline day.
The African forward has signed a long-term contract with the north London side to end weeks of speculation surrounding his future at the German club.
Aubameyang earned a reputation as a prolific Bundesliga goal-scorer following a staggering return of 98 goals in 144 top-flight appearances.
The 28-year-old will be tasked with filling the goal void left by Alexis Sanchez, who secured a move to their bitter rivals Manchester United in the January transfer window.
Aubameyang likened his playing style to Arsenal legend Henry following his club-record transfer to the north London club.
“I’m a fast player and I score goals too, like Henry a little bit,” Aubameyang told Arsenal’s website. “But as I said, I have to work a lot more.”
The Gabon international will link up with his former Dortmund team-mate Henrikh Mkhitaryan at the Emirates Stadium, who made the switch to Arsenal as part of the Sanchez deal.
Aubameyang scored 141 times in 213 games for Dortmund during a four-and-a-half season spell at the Bundesliga giants following his move to Germany from Saint-Etienne in 2013.
Henry scored 226 times in 369 appearances for Arsenal in all competitions to leave for Barcelona as the north London side’s all-time leading goal-scorer.
