Arsenal could struggle to tie key man down to new contract – report
Arsenal are set for intense negotiations with Aaron Ramsey about a new contract, say reports
Arsenal are set for “tough” negotiations in trying to convince Aaron Ramsey to sign a new contract at The Emirates, according to reports in the British media.
The Daily Mirror is reporting that the Gunners are keen to extend the midfielder’s current deal at the north London side, with his contract set to expire at the end of next season.
Ramsey has been in good form for Arsenal in recent weeks and he netted a hat-trick in the Gunners’ 5-1 win over Everton at The Emirates on Saturday evening.
The story says that Arsenal are likely to have to spend big on wages if they are to get the Wales international to commit to a new contract at The Emirates because of Mesut Ozil’s new deal.
Ozil is reported to be earning as much as £350,000 a week on his current contract at The Emirates and those wages are likely to prompt Ramsey to want a significant increase in his salary to stay at Arsenal.
According to the same article, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has “made it clear” that he wants to keep Ramsey, who has been linked with a move to Spain in the past.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are currently preparing for their crunch Premier League clash against bitter local rivals Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley on Saturday lunchtime.
