Granit Xhaka takes to social media to celebrate Arsenal's Europa League tie against AC Milan in the last 16
Granit Xhaka has taken to social media to reveal his excitement at seeing Arsenal be pitted against AC Milan in the Europa League last 16.
The Gunners secured their progress to the last 16 of Europe’s second tier club competition by beating Swedish minnows Ostersunds over two legs this month.
With Arsenal currently struggling down in sixth place in the Premier League table, the Europa League has taken on a greater significance for the north London side because it could be their last hope of a route into next season’s Champions League.
Xhaka will be hoping to help Arsenal follow in Manchester United’s footsteps and win the Europa League to secure a spot in next season’s Champions League.
And the Switzerland international Xhaka took so social media to express his delight at the prospect of facing his Switzerland team-mate Ricardo Rodriguez.
Xhaka posted the picture above on his personal Instagram account and wrote the caption: “Long time without facing each other my friend, I am looking forward to this match, not only versus AC Milan, but also against my friend! 💪 #Gunners #arsenal #WeAreTheArsenal #coyg #xhakaboom @arsenal @europaleague.”
Arsenal are currently preparing for their crunch League Cup final showdown against Manchester City at Wembley on Sunday afternoon.
The north London side will be hoping to win the trophy for the first time since Arsene Wenger’s appointment at the club back in 1996.
