Jamie Redknapp predicts Arsenal v Man City League Cup final
Jamie Redknapp warns Manchester City about Arsenal ahead of the League Cup final
Jamie Redknapp has warned Manchester City about “dangerous” Arsenal ahead of the League Cup final showdown at Wembley on Sunday.
The Gunners head into the game on the back of their disappointing 2-1 loss to Ostersunds in the Europa League last 32 on Thursday night, but Arsene Wenger’s men still progressed to the last 16 on aggregate.
Arsenal are aiming to try and win the League Cup for the first time since Wenger’s appointment at the north London club back in 1996.
It has been a season of stuttering form for the Gunners, with Wenger’s men having failed to find consistency in the Premier League to leave them way off the pace in the race for Champions League qualification.
However, former Liverpool FC midfielder Redknapp seems to think that their loss to Ostersunds in midweek will actually help them when they come up against the Citizens.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Redknapp said: “It may sound strange but I actually think Arsenal’s defeat to Ostersunds could work to their advantage at Wembley on Sunday.
“Everyone expects them to get beaten easily by Manchester City after that, but this Arsenal side have a habit of producing performances when you least expect it.
“It’s like last season when they beat City and Chelsea on their way to winning the FA Cup.
“It feels like Arsenal have nothing to lose again. No one expects them to get a result and I think that’s when they are at their most dangerous.
“Arsene Wenger has always talked up the importance of getting into the Champions League but now they have actually become a cup team.”
Arsenal have a good recent record at Wembley, with the Gunners having won the Community Shield and FA Cup in their last two visits to the national stadium for showpiece events.
The north London side had to settle for a place in the Europa League this season after they ended up in fifth place last term.
