Arsene Wenger delivers Mesut Ozil update ahead of Arsenal v Man City final
Arsene Wenger delivers the latest Arsenal news about Mesut Ozil ahead of the League Cup final against Manchester City
Arsene Wenger has revealed that he is hoping that Mesut Ozil will be fit for Arsenal’s clash with Manchester City in the League Cup final on Sunday.
The Germany playmaker has been struck down by illness once again after he helped the Gunners claim a 3-0 win over Ostersunds in the Europa League last week.
Wenger admitted that he has been baffled by Ozil’s recent struggles with illness, but the Arsenal boss is hopeful that the 29-year-old will be ready to face Manchester City in Sunday’s final at Wembley.
Speaking at a news conference ahead of Thursday’s clash with Ostersunds, Wenger said: “His immune system is in trouble and I don’t know why. We hope we can improve that medically.
“He came back from Ostersund [where Arsenal won the first leg 3-0] on Thursday night, practised Friday and Saturday.
“Since Monday, he was in bed. Today was the first session.
“I would certainly have played him but because he was sick, he will have to work hard and he will not be involved against Ostersund. He should be OK for Sunday.”
Ozil has been in decent form for Arsenal so far this season, scoring four goals and making seven assists in 22 Premier League games for the north London side.
He recently committed his long-term future to the north London club by signing a new three-and-a-half year contract with the Gunners earlier this month.
Ozil will be hoping to help Arsenal win the League Cup on Sunday as they look to lift the trophy for the first time under Wenger.
The Gunners have won the FA Cup for three of the last four years, but were dumped out of the competition in the third round last month.
