Rio Ferdinand states his prediction for Barcelona v Chelsea FC
The Man United legend warns Chelsea FC about taking their chances in the second leg at Barcelona next month
Rio Ferdinand has warned Chelsea FC that they will need to be decisive in front of goal in their return leg at Barcelona next month.
The Premier League title holders were held to a 1-1 draw with the La Liga leaders in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 clash on Tuesday night.
Willian broke the deadlock in the 62nd minute after the Brazil international hit the woodwork twice in the first half in west London.
Lionel Messi equalised to deny Chelsea FC a slender win after Andres Iniesta intercepted Andreas Christensen’s loose pass before teeing up the Barcelona number 10.
Chelsea FC will face the daunting task of scoring at the Camp Nou against a Barcelona side that has only conceded five league goals at their home stadium this term.
Former Manchester United defender Ferdinand warned Chelsea FC that Conte’s men will need to take their chances in the second leg to have any hope of qualification for the quarter-finals.
“They showed commitment today carrying out the manager’s instructions and being compact,” Ferdinand told BT Sport.
“They showed the personality to get the ball to the front three. But when they got to the Nou Camp they’ve got to be brave and have to expect to defend.
“They have to expect to be under the cosh for periods of time and then when you go forward, you have to be decisive.”
Chelsea FC are looking to win the Champions League for the first time since 2012 when Roberto di Matteo lead the Blues to an unlikely triumph.
Conte has never won Europe’s top prize as a manager despite his decorated career in club management at Chelsea FC and Juventus.
