Frank Lampard rates Chelsea FC’s chances after 1-1 draw with FC Barcelona
The Chelsea FC legend rates the Blues' chances of securing a place in the Champions League quarter-finals
Frank Lampard described FC Barcelona as favourites to reach the Champions League quarter-finals after Lionel Messi’s equaliser in a 1-1 draw at Chelsea on Tuesday night.
The Premier League title holders welcomed Barcelona at Stamford Bridge in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 clash.
Antonio Conte handed just a third start of the 2017-18 Champions League campaign to Willian and the Brazilian forward was Chelsea FC’s best player after he hit the woodwork twice in the first half.
Willian finally scored a well-earned goal in the 62nd minute when he placed a precise finish into the Barcelona net to give Chelsea FC a 1-0 aggregate lead.
However, Messi punished Andreas Christensen for a sloppy pass after the Argentina international finished past Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.
Chelsea FC will make the return trip to Camp Nou on Wednesday 14 March requiring an away goal to have a chance of progressing to the last eight.
Former Blues midfielder Lampard admitted that Barcelona are favourites to progress to the Champions League quarter-finals given the Camp Nou factor.
“It’s poised but it puts Barcelona as favourites in this tie because the Nou Camp is a very tough place to go,” Lampard told BT Sport.
“They’re still in the game but it feels like a ‘what could have been’ kind of night because they executed their plan brilliantly apart from one little lapse.”
Lampard was part of the Chelsea FC team that beat Barcelona at Camp Nou in the second leg of their semi-final en route to winning the Champions League in 2012.
