Jamie Carragher reacts to Olivier Giroud’s display in Chelsea FC’s 3-0 win over West Brom
The Liverpool FC legend praises Olivier Giroud's role in Eden Hazard's opening goal after Chelsea FC's 3-0 win over West Brom on Monday night
Jamie Carragher was impressed with Olivier Giroud’s delicate assist for Eden Hazard’s opening goal in Chelsea FC’s 3-0 win over West Brom at Stamford Bridge on Monday night.
The defending Premier League champions were in desperate need of three points after a disappointing run of two successive losses to Bournemouth and Watford.
Giroud was handed his first Chelsea FC start for the visit of the Premier League’s basement club following his £21m move to the west London side from Arsenal last month.
The 31-year-old made his mark with a deft assist to allow Hazard to break the deadlock in the first half at Stamford Bridge after West Brom squandered two good chances.
Giroud was able to provide more of a presence up front following summer signing Alvaro Morata’s injury problems and Hazard’s struggles in a lone strike role.
Former Liverpool FC defender Carragher praised Giroud for a lovely assist for Hazard’s goal.
“Giroud just pins the defender and lets the ball hit his foot,” Carragher told Sky Sports.
“He cushions it in a lovely way and Hazard gives the keeper the eyes. The goal came at a big time for Chelsea because they made a really poor start.”
Chelsea FC doubled their lead in the second half thanks to Victor Moses’ goal in the 63rd minute before Hazard scored the best goal of the night when the Belgian managed to beat Ben Foster at his near post.
The Blues hoisted themselves above Tottenham Hotspur and into fourth place thanks to their win.
