Steven Gerrard reacts to Willian’s display in Chelsea FC’s 1-1 draw with FC Barcelona
Steven Gerrard discusses Willian's performance in Chelsea FC's 1-1 draw with FC Barcelona
Steven Gerrard praised Willian for his quality display for Chelsea FC in their 1-1 Champions League draw with FC Barcelona on Tuesday night – but admitted that he wants to see more consistency from the Brazilian in the coming months.
The 29-year-old was in superb form for the Blues and he was their most impressive attacking threat in both halves.
Willian hit both posts in the first half as he helped to inspire Chelsea FC’s attacks.
And the Brazil international continued his strong form after the break, and he gave the Blues the lead in the 62nd minute when he curled home a low shot into the bottom corner.
However, the visitors grabbed a valuable away goal when Andres Iniesta fed Lionel Messi, who swept home to make it 1-1 in the 75th minute.
Willian has been in good form for Chelsea FC this season but he has failed to hold down a regular spot in the starting line-up, with the attacker only having started 13 games in the Premier League.
And former Liverpool FC star Gerrard feels that Willian needs to show more consistency and perform like he did on Tuesday night more often.
Speaking during BT Sport‘s coverage of the game, Gerrard said: “When he’s at the top of his game like tonight he’d be in the team every week.
“But he does have phases where he drops out of that form and that’s probably why he comes out of the team.”
Chelsea FC will take on Manchester United in the Premier League at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
