Frank Lampard replies when asked if Antonio Conte will be at Chelsea FC next season
The Chelsea FC legend admits he is unsure whether Antonio Conte will be at Stamford Bridge next term
Frank Lampard has cast doubt on Antonio Conte’s future at Chelsea FC.
The Blues won the Premier League title with two games to spare following Conte’s appointment as Jose Mourinho’s permanent successor in 2016.
Conte managed to rejuvenate the Chelsea FC squad with his much-lauded 3-4-3 formation and managed to string together 13 successive victories.
Chelsea FC suffered a disappointing 2-1 loss to Arsenal in the FA Cup final to deny Conte a unique domestic double in his debut campaign in England.
However, the Blues have struggled in Conte’s second season at Stamford Bridge to cast doubt over his future at the west London club.
Chelsea FC are in fourth place in the Premier League table ahead of their trip to Manchester United on Sunday.
Conte’s side squandered a 1-0 lead to draw 1-1 with La Liga giants Barcelona in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 clash on Tuesday night.
The Italian coach has been critical of the defending champions’ transfer policy over the past 12 months or so.
Asked during BT Sport’s coverage of Chelsea FC’s stalemate with Barcelona whether he thinks Conte will be at Stamford Bridge at the start of the 2018-19 season, Lampard said:
“I’m not sure. There has been a negative feel around the club at times this year. It’s difficult because what Conte did last season was incredible. It remains to be seen.”
Chelsea FC won the Premier League title last term after finishing seven points clear of Tottenham Hotspur.
