Thierry Henry: What I really think about Antonio Conte’s struggles at Chelsea FC
The Arsenal legend believes Antonio Conte is trying to communicate his lack of control over Chelsea FC transfers
Thierry Henry believes Chelsea FC boss Antonio Conte is trying to signal his lack of control over transfers at Stamford Bridge.
The Italian coach has endured a difficult start to 2018 so far following two victories in the Premier League in the calendar year.
Chelsea FC conceded seven times in successive losses to Bournemouth and Watford to leave Conte on the brink.
Indeed, speculation suggested that former Barcelona manager Luis Enrique could be set to take over at Stamford Bridge.
But the west London side managed to ease pressure on their manager with a 3-0 win over West Brom last week.
Chelsea signed Everton midfielder Ross Barkley, AS Roma defender Emerson Palmieri and Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud in January.
However, Conte hasn’t been afraid to hint the new additions were not his decision despite his plea for more squad depth.
Former Arsenal striker Henry believes Conte has been hinting at his lack of control over incoming players at Stamford Bridge.
“I think he’s trying to tell us that he doesn’t have any power somehow on transfers,” Henry told Sky Sports.
“He does improve players. Chelsea do not do it the way the other big clubs do it at times, but they’ve been successful.”
Chelsea FC were 4-0 winners against Hull City in the FA Cup fifth round on Friday night.
The Blues signed Ross Barkley, Olivier Giroud and Emerson Palmieri in the January transfer window.
