Thibaut Courtois sends message to Chelsea FC supporters about Antonio Conte
The Chelsea FC goalkeeper has issued his backing for Antonio Conte following their 4-1 loss at Watford on Monday night
Thibaut Courtois has insisted that the Chelsea FC squad still believe in under-pressure manager Antonio Conte.
The Belgium international conceded a first-half penalty after the 25-year-old brought down Watford signing Gerard Deulofeu after Tiemoue Bakayoko had been sent off minutes earlier.
Chelsea FC forward Eden Hazard momentarily equalised in the 82nd minute before goals from Darryl Janmaat, Deulofeu and Roberto Pereyra in the final six minutes to seal a 4-1 win at Vicarage Road.
The west London side slumped to back-to-back Premier League defeats following a 3-0 loss to Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth side at Stamford Bridge earlier this month.
Conte has come under pressure following Chelsea’s recent slump with the Blues managing to notch up a mere two victories in eight games in 2018 so far.
However, Courtois was quick to emphasise that Conte still has the support of the Chelsea FC squad.
“We had some good games, a lot of draws and two losses and we have to find our form from before the new year again, and hopefully it will get better,” Courtois told Chelsea’s website.
“We believe in him [Antonio Conte] and we believe in our team. We have two bad results and we just try to get back, regroup and just continue.
“We showed that we wanted to fight even with 10 men and that shows we have character, but when you lose twice like that it is not good and there are questions raised, but we go back to training with the manager, and training well and turn this situation around.”
Courtois was part of the Chelsea FC team that won the Premier League title in 2014-15 under Jose Mourinho.
The Blues endured a dramatic dip in the following seasons that ultimately cost the Portuguese coach his job.
Indeed, Chelsea FC finished in tenth place in the 2015-16 season to lead to the appointment of Antonio Conte.
