Jamie Carragher identifies two players Chelsea FC really miss
The Liverpool FC legend believes Chelsea FC really missed Diego Costa and John Terry in the current campaign
Jamie Carragher believes Chelsea FC have really missed Diego Costa and John Terry this season.
The Blues won the Premier League title with two games to spare last season thanks in part to Costa’s return of 20 goals in the domestic campaign.
While Terry barely featured under Antonio Conte in the 2016-17 season, the retired England international was an influential figure in the dressing room.
The Blues legend completed a move to Championship side Aston Villa last summer to end his long association with the west London club.
Chelsea FC allowed Costa to return to Atletico Madrid on loan with a view to a permanent transfer to the Spanish outfit at the end of the campaign.
Conte’s side have struggled to remain watertight at the back this season, with David Luiz falling out of favour under the Italian head coach.
Summer signing Alvaro Morata impressed in the early months of the campaign before a lack of confidence and fitness.
Former Liverpool FC defender Carragher named Costa and Terry as two key figures that Chelsea FC really miss.
“There’s no doubt they lost something with captain John Terry going, with what he was like around the training ground and in the dressing room, and of course they miss Costa,” Carragher told MNF Extra.
“There are few strikers who can do what he does.
“However, while people say Conte could have managed that situation better, Costa caused a lot of problems and it will have been difficult for the manager to forget about him not wanting to play in a title run-in.
“If you’re in Conte’s position, you’re not going to accept that. It’s then up to you to replace him with quality.”
Chelsea FC are in fourth place in the Premier League table but a point ahead of Tottenham Hotspur in the race to secure a place in next season’s Champions League.
