Chelsea FC signing Olivier Giroud sends honest message to Arsenal supporters
The Chelsea FC striker opens up about his decision to leave Arsenal in January
Olivier Giroud has admitted that he couldn’t spent any more time on the fringes of the Arsenal team after his January move to Chelsea FC.
The France international completed a £21m switch to the defending Premier League champions from the north London club on deadline day in the January transfer window.
The 31-year-old failed to start a Premier League game in the current campaign at the Emirates Stadium to cast doubt over Giroud’s chances of securing a place in France’s World Cup squad.
Giroud has already made an impression in the Chelsea FC team following the French centre-forward’s classy assist for Eden Hazard in a 3-0 win over West Brom last week.
The January signing opened his account with a finish in Chelsea FC’s 4-0 win over Championship side Hull City in the FA Cup fifth round at Stamford Bridge on Friday night.
Giroud opened up about his decision to leave Arsenal for Chelsea FC in the most recent transfer window.
“It was frustrating at Arsenal obviously,” Giroud told France Football. “For a year and a half, it went from bad to worse. I could no longer continue like that.
“I could not bring myself to spend another year at Arsenal and remain a reserve, even a second reserve. The future looked gloomy with the arrival of a new striker.”
Chelsea FC will make the trip to bitter rivals Manchester United in their next Premier League game at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
The Blues are in fourth place in the table but a mere three points adrift of Manchester United in second spot.
