Antonio Conte confirms that Marcos Alonso has suffered an ankle injury in training with Chelsea FC at Cobham
Antonio Conte has revealed that Marcos Alonso is out of action due to an ankle injury suffered in training with Chelsea FC.
The Spanish defender did not feature for the Blues on Monday night as the west London side returned to winning ways in the Premier League with an impressive 3-0 victory over West Brom at Stamford Bridge.
It was a welcome three points for Conte’s side, who had lost their last two games in the Premier League to dent their top four hopes.
It remains to be seen how long Alonso will be out of action for but Conte confirmed that the defender had twisted his ankle in training at Cobham over the weekend.
Speaking to Sky Sports before Monday’s win, Conte said: “Alonso in Saturday’s training [session] twisted his ankle.
“He has this injury and that’s why he’s not playing.”
Conte his now preparing his Chelsea FC side for their FA Cup fifth-round clash against Hull City at Stamford Bridge on Friday night.
The Blues are aiming to go one step further in the competition this season after they reached the final last term but were beaten by Arsenal at Wembley back in May.
Chelsea FC then have the small matter of their Champions League last 16 first leg clash against FC Barcelona next week.
