Antonio Conte has been delighted by new Chelsea FC signing
Antonio Conte explains why he's been happy with Olivier Giroud's start to life as a Chelsea FC player
Antonio Conte has revealed his delight at Olivier Giroud’s performance for Chelsea FC in the Blues’ 3-0 win over West Brom at Stamford Bridge on Monday night.
The striker has been settling in to life at Stamford Bridge after leaving Arsenal to sign for their London rivals in the January transfer window.
Giroud started the game against the Baggies on Monday night and helped the Blues move on their way towards victory by setting up Eden Hazard for Chelsea FC’s opening goal in west London.
The 31-year-old will be hoping to hold down a regular spot in the first team at Stamford Bridge in the coming weeks and months as he bids to win a place in the France squad for this summer’s World Cup in Russia.
And although Conte admits that Giroud still does have some improving to do, he says that he has been pleased with what he has seen from the forward so far in recent days.
Speaking at his post-match news conference on Monday night, Conte said: “We must be pleased with Giroud’s performance, it was the first time he played from the start with us.
“For sure, he needs to improve to go into our idea of football but to have a point of reference, like Olivier, is very important.”
Chelsea FC are now preparing for their FA Cup fifth-round clash against Hull City at Stamford Bridge on Friday night.
The Blues are aiming to go one step further than they did last season and win the competition after they were beaten by Arsenal in the final at Wembley back in May.
