Antonio Conte drops hint about Willian ahead of Chelsea FC v Man United
Antonio Conte discusses the possibility of Willian starting for Chelsea FC against Manchester United
Antonio Conte has hinted that Willian could be set to start for Chelsea FC in the Blues’ crunch clash with Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday.
The Brazilian attacker has been in fine form for the west London side in recent weeks and he earned plenty of praise for his sparkling display in the 1-1 draw with FC Barcelona on Tuesday night in the Champions League.
Willian hit both posts in the first half and then scored Chelsea FC’s goal in the second half during the Champions League clash.
Despite being in good form whenever called upon this season, Willian has struggled to hold down a regular spot in the first team at Stamford Bridge and he has only started 13 games so far this term in the Premier League.
It remains to be seen whether Conte will decide to start Willian once again at Old Trafford but he has indicated that the Brazilian could well be involved in the starting line-up.
Speaking at a news conference at Cobham on Friday afternoon, Conte said: “I have to try to make the best decision for the team. Now he is playing because he is deserving to play, not because there is some regret for the past.
“If a player shows me during the training sessions that he is on top form and wants to run offensively and defensively, he plays, otherwise he stays on the bench or in the stands.
“This is not only for one player; this is for all my players. This means a winning mentality.
“He played well against Barcelona. I am very happy with my choice. Before the game, some people said, ‘Why Willian and not Morata?’ Willian deserved it more than Morata.
“In the previous game he played well, and I think I made a fantastic choice, and I would like to take my credit!”
Chelsea FC are currently looking to cement their place in the top four this season as the race for Champions League qualification hots up.
