Antonio Conte raves about Willian after Chelsea FC’s 1-1 draw with FC Barcelona
Antonio Conte praises Willian for his fine performance for Chelsea FC in the Blues' 1-1 draw with FC Barcelona
Antonio Conte lavished praise on Willian following his strong performance for Chelsea FC in their 1-1 draw with FC Barcelona in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
The Brazilian was by far the Blues’ brightest attacking player on the night and he struck both posts in the first half in west London.
Willian then gave Chelsea FC the lead in the 62nd minute when he bent a low shot into the bottom corner to put the west London side ahead in the last 16 tie first leg.
However, FC Barcelona struck back shortly after, when Lionel Messi fired home from close range after a mistake from Andreas Christensen.
Willian earned plenty of praise for his strong performance for the Blues on Tuesday night, and Conte was quick to highlight his display after the game.
Speaking at his post-match news conference at Stamford Bridge, Blues manager Conte said: “I think our three strikers played very well, they played a fantastic game.
“Willian played really well against Hull and scored twice. In the last three games we scored eight goals and six have come from Pedro, Willian and Hazard, they work very well together.
“Willian has the potential to play this type of game in every game and I hope to see this for a long time.
“Against Hull he was fantastic, tonight he was fantastic and when you play in this way the coach doesn’t have any doubts about you playing.”
Chelsea FC will now switch their attentions back towards Premier League affairs for the time being and their crunch clash against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
The Blues will then take on FC Barcelona in the return leg of their Champions League last 16 tie at Camp Nou on 14 March.
