Emerson Palmieri has admitted that he is already looking forward to Chelsea FC’s Champions League showdown with FC Barcelona this month after signing for the Blues.

The 23-year-old became the west London side’s second signing of the January transfer window on Tuesday night when he officially completed his transfer from Roma.

The Brazilian has signed a four-and-a-half year contract with the west London side and he’ll now be keen to establish himself as a regular fixture in the team at Stamford Bridge.

Emerson has missed most of this season with an injury but that means that he is eligible to play in the Champions League for Antonio Conte’s men.

And the left-sided defender has admitted that he has already been thinking about the crunch last-16 clash with FC Barcelona in the Champions League later this month.

Speaking in an interview with Chelsea FC’s website, Emerson said: “Chelsea versus Barcelona is always a massive match and I remember watching that time when Chelsea won the Champions League and they eliminated Barcelona that season.

“Everybody saw them and it was a real spectacle so those matches are always huge and there are going to be two more like that this year. Let’s hope we can win.”

Meanwhile, Chelsea FC are now preparing for their Premier League clash against Watford at Vicarage Road on Monday night.

The Blues, who won the title last term, are currently in third place in the Premier League table as they bid to try and secure qualification for next season’s Champions League under Conte.
