The defender has been one of the Blues’ most consistent performers at the back in recent months and has been earning plenty of praise for his displays.
The Spaniard has earned a reputation as one of Chelsea FC’s top defenders and he played every single minute of their Premier League title winning campaign last season.
Azpilicueta is one of the first names on the team sheet for Antonio Conte at Chelsea FC and he has continued his solid form for the west London side this term.
He has scored one goal and made six assists in 26 Premier League games for the west London side and Lampard admits that he is a huge admirer of the full-back.
Speaking to BT Sport on Tuesday night, Lampard said: “He trains every day the same. I think he played every minute last season in the Premier League.
“He’s the go-to man for Conte. He sets the tone with that front-footed defending, that work ethic and the way he throws himself in front of the ball.
“He’s the go-to man. Chelsea fans at the end of the season will say he might be our player of the year.”
Azpilicueta will be expecting to start for Chelsea FC when the Blues travel to Old Trafford for their crunch Premier League showdown with Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.
Both of the Premier League outfits warmed up for the showdown by earning draws in the first legs of their Champions League last 16 ties in midweek.
