Owen Hargreaves has heaped praise on Chelsea FC for completing a deal to sign a “terrific” player by landing Olivier Giroud from Arsenal.

The French striker signed for the west London club in January after spending five years at The Emirates but struggling for game-time in the first half of this season.

Giroud will be looking for regular first-team football this season at Chelsea FC as he bids to win a place in the France squad for this summer’s World Cup in Russia.

The 31-year-old scored his first goal for Chelsea FC in the west London club’s 4-0 win over Hull City in the fifth round of the FA Cup on Friday night with a neat close-range finish.

And former Manchester United midfielder Hargreaves believes that the Blues’ decision to land the forward will turn out to be a great one.

Speaking to BT Sport, Hargreaves said: “Olivier Giroud is a proven Premier League goal-scorer.

“He’s a terrific personality in the dressing room as well. I think it is a great addition to the team. He’s scored over 100 goals in this league.”

Giroud will be hoping to start for Chelsea FC when the Blues take on FC Barcelona in the Champions League last 16 on Tuesday night at Stamford Bridge.

The west London side are currently in fourth place in the Premier League table as they chase qualification for next season’s Champions League under Antonio Conte.
