Paul Ince believes that Jose Mourinho’s war of words with Antonio Conte has contributed to Chelsea FC’s slump in form.

The two managers exchanged heated remarks in their news conferences earlier this season to indicate that there is clearly no love lost between the pair.

Chelsea FC have suffered from a dramatic slump in form in recent weeks, with the Blues having lost to both Bournemouth and Watford in their last two Premier League outings.

Those results have left the Blues in fourth place in the Premier League table and looking for a reversal in form to try and get their top four bid back on track.

And former Manchester United star Ince feels that Mourinho clearly got under Conte’s skin with his comments earlier this season and says that has contributed to the Blues’ downfall.

Speaking to Paddy Power, Ince said: “Ever since Antonio Conte had that public argument with Jose Mourinho, he hasn’t been the same.

“He’s not seemed happy since that little spat and things have been going wrong for Chelsea ever since.

“Everyone at The Blues seems to have lost their focus, and it’s obvious that Mourinho rattled Conte, exactly as he set out to do.

“Since that war of words, the Italian has looked dejected and just exudes negativity.

“As a top-class manager, it shouldn’t matter what’s going on in the press, and the problems behind the scenes. You should be positive for the sake of the team.”

Manchester United will return to Premier League action on Sunday with a trip to Newcastle United.

Chelsea FC, meanwhile, will aim to get back to winning ways in the top flight when they take on West Bromwich Albion in front of their home fans at Stamford Bridge on Monday night.

The Blues won the title last season but look set to have to settle for a top four finish this season.
