Chelsea FC could make top 24-year-old their first summer signing – report
Chelsea FC are keeping tabs on Newcastle United captain Jamaal Lascelles, according to reports
Chelsea FC are keeping tabs on Newcastle United captain Jamaal Lascelles with a view to a summer transfer move for the defender, according to reports in the British media.
The Evening Standard is reporting that the west London club are keen to add a new centre-half to their ranks in the summer, and that the 24-year-old is emerging as one of their top targets.
The same report claims that the Blues are keen to add more English players to their squad, highlighted by the fact that they landed Danny Drinkwater and Ross Barkley in recent transfer windows.
The Blues are also reportedly committed to bringing down the average age of their squad, especially considering that two of their central defenders are over the age of 30.
The same story says that both Gary Cahill and David Luiz are not assured of starting spots in the line-up for the Blues.
Lascelles has been in solid form for Newcastle United so far this season, scoring three goals in 22 Premier League games for the Magpies under Rafael Benitez.
The same story says that Chelsea FC could easily afford to significantly increase Lascelles’ wages by bringing him to Stamford Bridge in the summer.
Chelsea FC are bound to be linked with a host of players in the coming weeks and months as the summer transfer window draws ever nearer.
