Chris Sutton: Chelsea FC signing bringing out the best in this Blues duo
The Chelsea FC legend believes Olivier Giroud is bringing out the best in Eden Hazard and Pedro Rodriguez
Chris Sutton believes Olivier Giroud is bringing out the best in Chelsea FC duo Eden Hazard and Pedro Rodriguez.
The France international completed a move to defending Premier League champions from Arsenal in a £21m deal in the January transfer window.
Giroud made his full Chelsea FC debut in a 3-0 win over West Brom at Stamford Bridge last week after the experienced striker teed up Hazard to break the deadlock.
The 31-year-old striker opened his Blues account with a brilliant finish in Chelsea FC’s 4-0 win against Hull City in the FA Cup fifth round last Friday.
Giroud has brought another dimension to the Chelsea FC outfit given his ability to hold up the ball and bring his team-mates into the game.
Former Chelsea FC striker Sutton believes France centre-forward Giroud working well with Blues playmakers Hazard and Pedro.
“I think it’s a great piece of business,” Sutton told BT Sport.
“Not only is he a goal-scorer, he’s a proper number nine. What I mean by that is he is a proper link-up.
“He links the play exceptionally well and more importantly for Chelsea, he gets the best out of the likes of Eden Hazard and Pedro.
“He was sensational against West Brom last week. He was a focal point and someone that Hazard and Pedro could play off.”
Chelsea FC signed Spanish forward Alvaro Morata in a £58m deal from La Liga giants Real Madrid in the 2017 summer transfer window.
The former Juventus forward scored eight goals in his opening seven games but the summer signing has struggled in recent months.
The Blues allowed Belgian striker Michy Batshuayi to move to Borussia Dortmund on loan last month.
