Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Ander Herrera will not be fit for Manchester United’s crunch clash with Chelsea FC in the Premier League on Sunday due to injury.

The Spanish midfielder picked up the problem during the early stages of the Red Devils’ goalless draw with Sevilla in the Champions League last 16 on Wednesday night in Spain.

Herrera underwent some scans at Carrington following the game and Mourinho has now confirmed that the midfielder will be out of action for a number of weeks due to the problem.

That means that he will miss Manchester United’s crunch showdown with Chelsea FC at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

Mourinho also confirmed that both Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marouane Fellaini will also be out of action for this weekend’s game.

Speaking at a news conference at Carrington on Friday, Mourinho said: “Ander is out.

“I don’t know the final diagnosis but I know he’ll be out for a few weeks.

“I don’t know how many is a few – two, three, four, five, six weeks – I don’t know, but a few weeks, for sure. Coming back from injury – nobody else.”

Manchester United are aiming to get their Premier League form back on track, with the Red Devils having lost two of their last three outings in the top flight.

The Red Devils are bidding to at least break back into the top four this season, after they ended up in sixth place last season.
