Phil Thompson: Why Liverpool FC attacker reminds me of Harry Kane
The Liverpool FC legend likes Roberto Firmino's work ethic to Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane
Phil Thompson believes Liverpool FC forward Roberto Firmino’s work ethic is similar to Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane.
The England international has established himself as one of the best strikers in the Premier League over the past four seasons at White Hart Lane.
Kane has netted an incredible 21 goals in 24 appearances in the Premier League this season to lead England’s goal-scoring charts.
The 24-year-old’s brilliant form has even prompted talk of interest from La Liga giants Real Madrid ahead of the summer transfer window.
Liverpool FC number nine Roberto Firmino is in the best form of his career, even if the Brazilian hasn’t been quite as prolific as his Tottenham rival.
The former Hoffenheim man has netted 18 times and made eight assists in 32 games in all competitions.
Firmino will be hoping to score in successive Premier League games when Tottenham make the trip to Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
Kane, meanwhile, is stuck on 99 Premier League goals after he failed to find the net in a 2-0 victory over Manchester United mid-week.
Former Liverpool FC defender Thompson believes Firmino and Kane share a similar work ethic despite being different types of goal-scorers.
“He [Firmino] has been one of my favourites for a number of seasons and his selfless work ethic similar to Kane’s,” Thompson told Sky Sports.
“The amount of goals Kane has scores means you have to have him leading the line though.”
Liverpool FC lost 4-1 to Tottenham in the Premier League at Wembley back in October.
