Jurgen Klopp admits Danny Ings is pushing hard for a chance to shine in the Liverpool FC team.

The England Under-21 international has endured an injury-ravaged 24 months at the Anfield outfit since Klopp took over the reins from Brendan Rodgers in October 2015.

The Northern Irishman signed Ings in a free transfer from Burnley but the English striker suffered a serious knee problem in Rodgers’ final game in charge in Liverpool FC’s 1-1 draw with Everton.

The 25-year-old has endured a number of setbacks since the Liverpool FC forward’s recovery from his initial problem at the Anfield outfit.

Ings has made six substitute appearances in the current campaign, racking up a mere 38 minutes of competitive action.

The Liverpool FC forward was a late substitute in last week’s 5-0 win at Porto in the first leg of the Champions League last-16 clash.

Klopp praised Ings’ work rate in training as the Liverpool FC striker looks to break into the starting line-up.

“Danny is in fantastic shape,” Klopp told the Daily Mail.

“It always takes time. Now, after two-and-a-half years, he can play in the Champions League. It’s a wonderful story, it’s really deserved.

“Is Danny knocking on the door for the first team? Yes, absolutely. It’s good. He needed time.

“A few months ago it was different but a player like him, when they come back they think “I am under pressure” and they want to come in immediately and get game time.

“Danny went the hard way. He played a lot of games for the under-23s.

“If you feel like a settled player, like he usually is, and then you play under-23 and are not the best player on the pitch, then it’s not nice but it’s an important experience again.”

Ings has netted three goals in 17 appearances for Liverpool FC over the past three seasons at the Anfield outfit.

The England Under-21 international scored 43 goals in 130 games in all competitions for Burnley before his switch to Liverpool FC.
