Rio Ferdinand sends ‘cheeky’ message to Liverpool FC fans about Mohamed Salah
The Manchester United legend delivers his glowing verdict on Liverpool FC summer signing Mohamed Salah
Rio Ferdinand says Liverpool FC summer signing Mohamed Salah is playing with the cheekiness of a player who has scored 30 goals this season.
The Egypt international moved to the Reds in a £39m deal from Serie A giants AS Roma in the summer transfer window to bolster Jurgen Klopp’s attacking options.
Salah spent eight months at Chelsea FC in 2014 before the African forward moved to Fiorentina and then AS Roma on loan after failing to leave his mark at Stamford Bridge.
However, the 25-year-old scored his 22nd Premier League goal of the campaign in a 2-0 victory over Southampton at St Mary’s last weekend.
Salah became the 13th Liverpool FC player to score 30 goals in a season when the summer signing netted the Reds’ second goal in a 5-0 win over Porto in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 clash.
His first-half goal even earned comparisons to Barcelona legend Lionel Messi after the African forward juggled the ball three times before he placed his finish past Porto goalkeeper Jose Sa.
Former Manchester United defender Ferdinand praised Salah for his brilliant strike in Portugal.
“The cheek of it. It was cheeky,” Ferdinand told BT Sport about Salah’s last-16 goal.
“The composure he showed to get the ball and juggle it around at that moment… that shows you that he’s playing with the confidence of a guy who’s got 30 goals this season. Beautiful stuff.”
Only Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has scored more goals than Salah in Europe’s top five leagues in the 2017-18 season.
