Jurgen Klopp reassured incoming Liverpool FC signing will be better than Emre Can
The former Irish defender is excited about what Naby Keita will bring to the Liverpool FC team
Naby Keita will give Liverpool FC more of an edge in midfield than Emre Can, according to Kenny Cunningham.
The Guinea international is set to complete a move to Liverpool FC in the 2018 summer transfer window.
Liverpool FC managed to reach a £48m agreement with Bundesliga side RB Leipzig to sign Keita at the end of the 2017-18 season.
Keita has struggled to maintain his performance level in the current campaign for the German club in the Bundesliga and Europe.
The 22-year-old scored eight goals and made nine assists in his first season at RB Leipzig last term to attract Liverpool FC’s interest.
The Reds are facing an uncertain future surrounding their Germany international Emre Can, who has been linked with a move to Juventus.
The Germany international is capable of producing moments of brilliance but proving a frustrating player in equal measure.
Former Irish defender Cunningham believes Liverpool FC are in desperate need for Keita to replace Can.
“It’s always been an area where Liverpool needed to focus on,” Cunningham told Irish radio station Newstalk.
“The balance has never been right in the central area of the pitch. I’m not a fan of Emre Can.
“I don’t think he is the greatest athlete. He doesn’t have the defensive mindset for me. The quicker Keita comes in the better.
“Even Keita is more of an all action, box to box midfielder. He will help to give them some more physical presence.”
Liverpool FC signed Netherlands international Virgil van Dijk in a £75m deal from Premier League rivals Southampton in January.
The Dutch centre-half is the most expensive defender in the world following his world record move to Liverpool FC.
