Jamie Carragher compares Liverpool FC forward to Lionel Messi
The Liverpool FC legend likens Mohamed Salah's second goal to a Lionel Messi effort for Barcelona
Jamie Carragher has likened Liverpool FC’s prolific Mohamed Salah to Barcelona icon Lionel Messi.
The Reds signed Salah in a £39m deal from Serie A giants AS Roma in the summer transfer window to bolster their attacking options for Jurgen Klopp’s second full season in charge.
The Liverpool FC started the weekend two goals behind the Premier League’s leading goal-scorer Harry Kane despite the Egypt international being used predominantly in a wide position.
Salah broke the deadlock against Spurs within three minutes to net his 20th league goal of his debut season at Anfield before he restored Liverpool FC’s lead with an incredible solo goal in the 91st minute.
The former Chelsea star managed to evade three Tottenham defenders before Salah lifted his finish over France international Hugo Lloris to equal Kane’s tally.
However, England international Kane netted a late equaliser from the spot to edge ahead of the Liverpool forward on 22 goals.
Former Liverpool FC defender Carragher likened Salah’s second goal to Messi after his mazy run and lifted finish provided one of the moments of the Premier League weekend.
“The only (other) man who can score that goal is Lionel Messi,” Carragher told Sky Sports.
“If you think of Messi scoring goals, that’s what he does in the tight areas and dinks it over the goalkeeper.”
Liverpool FC remain two points ahead of fifth-placed Tottenham in the Premier League table in the race to secure a Champions League spot.
