Steven Gerrard: What makes this Liverpool FC team very special
The Liverpool FC legend explains why Jurgen Klopp's team is so special after Wednesday night's 5-0 win over Porto
Steven Gerrard believes Liverpool FC’s work rate makes Jurgen Klopp’s team “very special”.
The Reds were impressive 5-0 winners against Porto in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 clash at Esadio do Dragao on Wednesday night.
Sadio Mane scored a hat-trick in Portugal, while Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah got on the score sheet to secure a commanding win.
The Reds side produced a great team performance in the Champions League clash as Dejan Lovren and James Milner created the first two goals thanks to their pressing.
The Liverpool FC trio have been sharing the goals in recent weeks to help Klopp’s side put second-placed Manchester United under pressure in the top-four race.
Gerrard, who was part of the last Reds team to win the Champions League in 2005, spoke in glowing terms about Liverpool FC’s work rate under Klopp.
“I think the work rate of this Liverpool team is very, very special,” Gerrard told BT Sport. “And also how unselfish they are.
“There’s no greed in the team, there’s no one who’s selfish. They all pass the ball to each other.
“They look for each other and they’re all getting in on the act because they know that they’re going to score.”
The Reds are in third place in the Premier League table but a mere two points ahead of Tottenham Hotspur in the race to secure a Champions League spot.
Liverpool FC aren’t in action again until their Premier League clash against West Ham United at Anfield on Saturday 24 February.
The Merseyside outfit will host Porto in the return leg in the Champions League on Tuesday 6 March.
